During this 4 hour workshop we will reflect on symbology, discuss and explore design elements, utilise key silversmithing tools & various traditional techniques in the creation of your unique piece.
Explore, discuss and plan the shape, texture and function of your own unique design.
+ LEARN TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES
Learn and practice the use of key silversmithing tools and various traditional techniques required in the creation of your design.
+ CREATE YOUR OWN PIECES
Delve into your creativity, utilise silversmithing hand tools and techniques and by completion of the workshop you will hold in your dirty but proud hands a unique pair of earrings or pendant designed and handcrafted by you.
OVERVIEW
To begin this workshop (approx 4 hours) we will view a range of design stimulus, explore and discuss jewellery, objects and materiality. During this time you will consider and discuss your concept, then plan and design your earrings / pendant. You will have a choice of metal, either Sterling Silver or Brass.
Following this you will learn how to draw / scribe your design onto metal; fine hand sawing techniques and how to shape and form your metal.
We will explore several processes for applying textures to the surface of your metal, such as stamping and hammering; look at how to join metal components; filing and sanding methods; and various finishing techniques such as brushing, oxidising (blackening) and polishing to complete your piece.
